Finland’s World Cup Qualifiers – June 7 & 10
The Finnish national team, the ‘Huuhkajat’, continues its World Cup qualifying campaign with two crucial home matches in June:
Saturday, June 7 at 21:45 – Finland vs. Netherlands
Facing one of the toughest squads in Europe, the Netherlands boasts a lineup packed with stars like Van Dijk, Gakpo, Depay, De Jong, Simons, Dumfries, and Frimpong. Keep an eye out for Tijjani Reijnders – the recent AC Milan-to-Man City transfer may not yet be a household name, but he controls the midfield with ease. Still, the Dutch team is known for its internal tensions, which might give Finland an opening.
Tuesday, June 10 at 21:45 – Finland vs. Poland
This is a must-win for Finland to keep the qualification dream alive. Luckily, Polish captain and star striker Robert Lewandowski has announced he’s taking time off and won’t be in the lineup – good news for the Huuhkajat defense.
U21 Euros in Slovakia – June 11–28
The ‘Pikkuhuuhkajat’ (Finland’s U21 squad) are set to make their mark at the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. Group D features tough opposition: the Netherlands, Ukraine, and Denmark.
Finland’s young talents are already making waves internationally. While strikers like Naatan Skyttä and Niklas Pyyhtiä tend to steal the headlines, the defense deserves your attention too. Wing-backs Tomas Galvez and Miska Ylitolva support the attack aggressively, while center-back Ville Koski brings fierce, forward-thinking defending. Watch also for midfield playmaker Leo Walta and Chelsea goalkeeper Lucas Bergström holding the backline. Can this squad surpass the legendary 2009 team featuring Pukki, Hetemaj, and Sparv?
Finland’s group stage matches:
- June 12 at 22:00 – Finland vs. Netherlands
- June 15 at 19:00 – Finland vs. Ukraine
- June 18 at 19:00 – Denmark vs. Finland
2025 FIFA Club World Cup – June 15 to July 13
