Russian Poker is a game in which the player tries to beat the dealer’s five-card hand with his own five-card hand. In Russian Poker, the players do not play against each other. They only play against the dealer (the casino).
The course of the game
To start the game, the players place their bets in the Ante area. Players may also place an optional side bet in the JP area.
The dealer deals five cards face down to each player and five to himself. The dealer’s fifth card s turned face up.
When the player has checked his cards, he can continue playing by placing a bet in the Raise area equal to twice the amount of the player’s Ante bet, or fold, in which case he loses the bet placed in the Ante area.
The player can also replace one to five cards or buy a sixth card by paying a replacement fee equal to the player’s Ante bet. After the buy and replacement, the player decides whether to continue playing or fold.
The dealer’s hand
When all bets have been placed, the dealer’s cards are revealed.
If the dealer’s hand is Ace-King or better, the dealer qualifies and plays his hand against those of the players. If the player’s hand beats the dealer’s, the player’s Raise bet receives a payout according to the ratios specified below. If the player’s hand loses to the dealer’s, the player loses both the Ante and the Raise bet.
If the dealer’s hand is worse than Ace-King, the dealer surrenders and the player receives a payout of 1:1 on his Ante bet.
Buying a card for the dealer
Given that the player will not receive a payout on his Raise bet unless the dealer’s hand is Ace-King or higher, the player can try to buy a card for the dealer at a cost equal to the Ante bet. The dealer will then replace the highest card in his hand. If, as a result of the replacement, the dealer has a pair or better, the players who paid the replacement fee and whose hand beats the dealer’s hand will receive payouts on their Raise
bets in accordance with the ratios specified below. If, following the replacement of the card, the dealer’s hand is higher than the player’s hand, the player loses both the Ante bet and the Raise bet.
If the dealer’s hand does not qualify, the players who paid the replacement fee will not receive any payout.
Payout for bets placed in the Raise box:
|Four of a Kind||20:1|
|Three of a Kind||3:1|
If the player’s winning hand includes two of the above combinations, the payout will be paid for both combinations as long as each combination includes one card not included in the other combination*.
The player’s cards 5-5-5-A-K, for example, receive a payout for both three of a kind and for Ace-King, if three of a kind beats the dealer’s hand.
*High cards cannot be included in the combinations. For example, even though a six card hand 2233JA can be considered to include two five card hands (2233J and 2233A), it includes only one combination: two pairs (2233).
If the player has a hand of Three of a Kind or better, he can place an insurance bet amounting to at least the player’s Ante bet and no more than half of the payout payable for the player’s Raise bet.
If the dealer’s hand is lower than Ace-King, the player receives a payout of 1:1 on the insurance bet.
If the dealer’s hand is Ace-King or better, but worse than the player’s hand, the insurance bet is lost.
If the dealer’s hand is equal to or better than the player’s hand, the insurance bet is returned to the player.
The insurance bet must be placed before the dealer’s cards are revealed.
Ranking of poker hands
The game applies the normal ranking of five-card poker hands, which is the same as the one shown in these game rules for payouts on bets placed in the Raise area.
Jackpot side game
The player wins the JP side game if he gets a poker hand with his first five cards that is a straight or higher. Otherwise the JP bet is lost. The wins for the JP side game are paid out regardless of the outcome of the basic game.
The player must notify the dealer of any JP win immediately following the initial deal.
Wins pay out according to the following table. The size of the accrued Jackpot is shown on the display at the table.
|Royal Flush (straight flush from 10 to ace)||Jackpot|
|Straight flush||Mini Jackpot|
|Four of a Kind||250 x bet|
|Full House||150 x bet|
|Flush||100 x bet|
|Straight||50 x bet|
The size of the JP bet does not affect the payout in case of a straight flush or Royal Flush, but for the other winning Jackpot hands, the size of the bet affects the size of the payout. The winning amounts are shown in the displays of the tables. Casino Helsinki guarantees that the accrued Jackpot is always at least 20,000 euros and Mini Jackpot 2,000 euros.
The payout for Russian Poker is 99.1 %.
The payout for the JP side game is 79,7 %.
These rules are based on Veikkaus’ casino and slot machine rules.
The values of hands from lowest to highest:
A high hand in which Ace and King are the highest cards. The better hand is determined by the value of the third, fourth or fifth card.
Two cards of the same value. The highest pair wins, but if the croupier and the player have pairs of the same value, the better one is determined by the value of the third, fourth or fifth card.
Two separate pairs in one hand. If the croupier and the player both have two pairs, the higher pair wins. If the higher pairs are even, the second pair determines the winner. If both pairs are of equal value, the value of the fifth card determines the winner.
THREE OF A KIND
Three cards of the same value. If the croupier and player both have three of a kind, the higher combination wins.
Five cards that are consecutive in value. If the croupier and player both have a straight, the straight containing the highest card wins.
Five cards of the same suit. If both the croupier and the player have a flush, the hand with the highest card wins. If the highest cards are equal, the winner is determined by the second, third, fourth or fifth card. The suit does not affect the combination.
A hand consisting of three of a kind and a pair. If both the croupier and the player have a full house, the hand with the higher three of a kind wins.
FOUR OF A KIND
Four cards of the same value. If both the croupier and the player have four of a kind, the hand with the higher four of a kind wins.
Five cards of consecutive values of the same suit. If both the croupier and the player have a straight flush, the higher hand wins. The suit does not affect the combination.
A straight flush consisting of 10, jack, queen, king and ace.
